Woodrow E. Geiger, age 94, of Backoo, ND, died on Monday, May 28, 2007, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of service. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Woodrow Edward Geiger was born April 2, 1913, in Hay Township near Osnabrock, ND to Edward and Adeline (Schrader) Geiger. The family moved to Cavalier in 1924, then to Backoo where the family farmed. At the age of 12, Woodrow was cultivating in the fields with a team of four horses.
On April 15, 1936, he married Irene A. Clark at the Presbyterian manse in Cavalier. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. They spent 65 years living in the Backoo community. Woodrow worked for various farmers and in potato warehouses, he and Irene are well remembered as supervisors of teenage beet crews for many years. He worked as a security guard in the Parr site, and then at area beet dumps, ending his working years at age 77. In January of 2002, they moved into Wedgewood Manor. Irene passed away on November 16, 2003.
He is survived by his children, Nancy (Don) Zachariasen and Raymond (Shirley) Geiger, all of Seattle, WA; Gene (Janice) Geiger, Kingston, WA; Elaine (Don) Morris, Williams, MN; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Cindy; infant sister, Bertha; and brothers, Wilfred and Howard.
Clergy: Rev. John Werth.
Military Rites by Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion.
Music: Cleone Whelan, Organist and Sue Letexier, Soloist.
Casket Bearers: Dennis Brown, Paul Brown, Jeff Geiger, Stuart Geiger, Malcolm Greenwood, and Duane Letexier.
