William G. Vistad

William G. Vistad, 89, formerly of Hamilton and Cavalier, ND passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Home Sweet Home Eldercare, Horace, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Hamilton Cemetery.
William was born June 14, 1926, the son of Gjermund & Isabella Vistad, in South Carlisle Township. He attended Neviss #90 school through the 8th grade and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1943. He farmed with his father and brothers until entering the Army early in 1945 during World War II. Bill served in the 11th Airborne in Japan until the winter of 1946 when he was honorably discharged. He continued to farm, spending winters in St. Paul, MN where he was employed and took flying lessons. On Sept. 9, 1950, he married Helen Marie Hallberg in St. Paul, MN at Arlington Hills Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed at Hamilton, ND, spending some winter months in Mesa, AZ.
Bill was a member of Hamilton Presbyterian Church where served as an elder for many years. He served on Neviss School Board and was township supervisor for Carlisle Township for about 30 years. He was a member of the Cavalier American Legion Post #11, the Masonic Lodge and the Hamilton Civic Club.
Survivors include his sons: Tom Vistad, Horace, ND, Bruce (Karla) Vistad, Fergus Falls, MN, Jeffrey Vistad, Seneca, SC, Kevin (Paula) Vistad, Devils Lake, ND, William (Lynda) Vistad, Horace, ND; grandchildren: Barney and Alan Vistad; Kjell Vistad, Lucas (Kandi) Vistad, Alysia Vistad; Christopher and Taylor Vistad; Courtney and Cynthia Vistad; great-grandchildren: Kyle and Tristan Vistad; K.J. Kleppe; Cooper Vistad; sister, Jean Baker; sister-in-law, Margaret Vistad.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Helen on January 23, 2011; brothers: Bob and Donald; sister, Jessie.
