William E. Magyar, 72, of Elkhart, Indiana and formerly of Langdon, ND passed away Tuesday October 17, 2006 at Elkhart.
William E. Magyar was born July 15, 1934 to Nicholas and Faye (Boatman) Magyar at South Bend, Indiana. William was born to very patriotic Hungarian immigrant parents, and he and all of his brothers served in the United States Military. He acquired over 23 years of service starting in 1953 with the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Des Moines during the Korean War. In 1957 he re-enlisted , this time in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division. He completed Ranger school in 1963, Special Forces training in 1965 and went on to serve nearly three tours of duty in Vietnam as a Green Beret between 1966 and 1969, where he received several decorations including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Upon returning home in 1971, he was stationed at the Stanley R. Mickelsen SAFEGAURD Complex, part of the United States Strategic Defense Forces, located in Nekoma, ND. William and Valerie J. Schrader were married July 2, 1971 at Langdon, ND. In 1973 he retired from the Army as a Sergeant First Class, and went on to work as a telephone lineman for the next 28 years in the Langdon area, retiring from that in 2000. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #98 of Langdon, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to farm.
William is survived by his children: Jeff (Beth) Magyar of Bristol, IN; Tony (Marla) Magyar of Elkhart, IN; Mike (Barb) Magyar of Fayetteville, ND; Stephanie (David) Ouse of Indianapolis, IN, nine brothers: Joe (Sharon) Magyar of Raleigh, ND; Jack Magyar of South Bend, IN; Jim (Dolly) Magyar of Bristol, IN; Garland ââ¬ÅPeteââ¬Å¥ Magyar of Elkhart, IN; John (Judy) Magyar of Elkhart, IN; Fred (Joan) Mag;yar of Wakarusa, IN; Alex (Carol) Magyar of Elkhart, IN; Mike (Sandy) Magyar of Elkhart; Steve (Tracy) Magyar of Elkhart, IN, two sisters: Joan Anderson of South Bend, IN; Mary Ellen Grove of Elkhart, IN, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Valerie, his son Robbie Magyar, sister Lois Toth and granddaughter Megan Magyar.
VISITION will take place Sunday October 22, 2006 from 5 to 8pm at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND.
SERVICES Monday October 23, 2006 at 11:00am at the United Methodist Church of Langdon, ND.
