Wesley R. Phelps, 85, of Cavalier, ND passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier ND. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the Cavalier Baptist Church, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Wesley was born February 12, 1931 in Bottineau County of North Dakota to Royal and Florence (Suefert) Phelps. He grew up in the Hoople, ND area. From 1950 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Roanoke as a gunners mate. After his discharge from the service he worked for area farmers in the Hoople area and worked for Hoople Potato Products for over 30 years.
Things he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, and camping with his family.
On December 27, 1980, Wesley married Jolene Scholler at the Cavalier Baptist Church. She survives as do his children: Tammy (Bill) Harlow, Grand Forks, ND, Terry (Curtis) Gullickson, Hoople, Dennis (Penny) Scholler, Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Tyler and Troy Harlow and Mikayla Tingwald; Amanda Nupdal, Stevie Shambaugh, Michael and Christina Gullickson; Sean, Brett, and Whitney Scholler; great-grandchildren: Dylan and Grant Nupdal, Taylor Tingwald, Jalyn and Tucker Harlow, Kinzee Scholler, Zane Shambaugh; brothers: Cecil (Jannine) Phelps, Scott (Jan) Phelps; sisters: Sheila (Charles) Lietz, Myra Phelps, Judy Wilson, Joan Grennell.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Vernon, Merle, Gary, and Glenn Phelps; sister, Shirley Ruckeigal.
