Walter "Laddie" Kalka, 83, of Drayton, ND passed away Tuesday, June 08, 2010, at Valley Eldercare Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church, Pembina, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, June 11th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the church. Burial in the Pembina Cemetery.
Walter "Laddie" Kalka was born May 23, 1927, at Auburn, ND to Dan and Mary (Mlodzik) Kalka. He attended school in the Drayton area. Laddie farmed on the family farm with his father and later worked in Pembina and retired from Motor Coach Industries in 1992, after 30 years of service.
Laddie was a member of the Pembina Fire Department, the Assumption Catholic Church, Pembina and St. Edward's Catholic Church, Drayton. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
On October 19, 1955, he married Dorothy Jerome in Pembina.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; children, Jon Kalka, Pembina, Mary (Craig) Knutson, Hudson, WI, Jan (Peyton) Stanlake, Parkers Prairie, MN, Diane (Joel) Muir, Hallock, MN, Jerry (Lisa) Kalka, Cottage Grove, MN; grandchildren, Carl and Greta Knutson; Mariah, Christina, and Nicholas Tvrdik; Madison Muir; Kassidy and Colton Kalka; step grandchildren, Chelsey, Chase, and Alexis Stanlake; sister, Zenobia Smith, Austin, TX; brothers, Ray (Mary) Kalka, Ilion, NY and Chester (Donna) Kalka, Drayton, ND; brother-in-law, Edward Efta, Greenbush, MN.
Preceding him in death were his parents; great grandson Andrew Tvrdik-Walker; sister, Leona Efta; and brother-in-law, Bob Smith.
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Joseph Okogba.
Reader: Joe Kalka.
Casket Bearers: Bob Humble, Dennis Humble, Mark Humble, Bill Jerome, Greg Kalka, and Paul Kalka.
