Wallace A. Osmon, 89, died May 17, 2010 in Bozeman, Mont.
Wallace was born June 3, 1920, in Hillsboro - the son of Albert and Hannah Osmon. His father was a long time sheriff of Trail County. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1939 and attended Jamestown College from 1939 to 1943. He was active in student affairs and athletics. He graduated from Mayville State University in March of 1945. He received an MA degree from The University of Northern Colorado. He received his degree in guidance counseling from The University of North Dakota in 1963.
Wally taught at Kulm and Portland before moving to Langdon in 1945 where he taught and coached. He became the high school counselor until he retired after 40 years as an educator. For a period of time, he also taught in Milton.
He served in various civic organizations. He was elected Cavalier County Justice, Langdon City Magistrate and Cavalier County Juvenile Commissioner for 10 years. He was active in park affairs and served in various capacities in United Lutheran Church. He was a member of Lebanon Lodge #34, Langdon Scottish Rites Bodies, Kem Temple of Grand Forks, Royal Order of Jesters and Langdon Eagles. He belonged to several educational and guidance associations.
He married Helen Norgaard in Lakota, ND in 1944. They have two daughters.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of 65 years; daughters, Susan McConnell, of Bozeman and B.J. (Chris) Manos of Helena, Mont.; one brother, Lyle Osmon, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Monica Veirs of Durham, N.C. and Kelly Manos of Helena.
Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service and Cremator in Bozeman was in charge of the arrangements.
A Memorial Service will be held in Langdon on Wednesday, June 23 at 7:00 p.m. at United Lutheran Church.
