Thelma VanHorn

Thelma Van Horn, 90, of Riverside, CA and formerly of Osnabrock, ND, passed away from natural causes on July 1, 2013 at Senior Focus, a neighborhood care home in Riverside.

Thelma L. Nelson was born January 17, 1923 to Henry and Bertine Nelson at rural Osnabrock, ND. She attended grade school and high school in Osnabrock.

Thelma started working at Farmer’s Elevator in Osnabrock and then did secretarial work at the county agent’s office in Langdon, ND. She later was employed at the State Extension office in Fargo, ND before moving to Los Angeles, CA in January 1948. Her sister, Eunice, came to CA in June of 1949. Thelma was employed as a stenographer for a district judge and later was employed at Riverside Savings & Loans. She then retired and lived at Canyon Crest Villas in Riverside. Ailing health caused her to move to Senior Focus where she resided until her death.

Thelma married Robert Van Horn in 1953 at Los Angeles, CA where they lived. Robert passed away in October of 1974. Robert had been employed by B & C Transfer Co., a company involved with moving and storage, in Ontario, CA.

Thelma will be forever missed by her loving family- sister: Gladys (Richard) Lorenz of Langdon, ND and Eunice Eagan of Whittier, CA; brother Grant (Betty) Nelson of Langdon; sister-in-law Nona Nelson of Osnabrock; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents Henry and Bertine, and three brothers: Norris, Harley and John Nelson.

A memorial service for Thelma will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013 in the Maple Manor Care Center Chapel in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
