Svanfridur ââ¬ÅLoloââ¬Å¥ Lorenz, 101, of Langdon, ND, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon.
Svanfridur ââ¬ÅLoloââ¬Å¥ was born July 14, 1916, to Thomas and Soffia (Kristjanson) Thomasson in Edinburg, ND. She attended school in Gardar, ND, and went on to get her teaching certificate from Mayville State Teachers College and also took some business classes at Aakerââ¬â¢s Business College. She taught school in Pembina, Walsh and Ramsey counties before her marriage on June 5, 1941, to Victor Lorenz at St. Edwardââ¬â¢s Catholic Church in Nekoma, ND. After they got married, they moved to Denver, CO, for a short time. In 1942, they returned to the Nekoma area to live on the family farm where they raised their family. They moved to Langdon in 1966 when Victor retired from farming. In 2006, they moved to Wheatland Estates and to Maple Manor in 2009. They were fortunate to enjoy 29 winters in Mesa, AZ. Victor passed away December 8, 2009, after 68 years of marriage.
Lolo had a strong faith, a good sense of humor and a positive attitude. People rarely heard her complain. She loved to play bridge and other cards games, dance, golf, and bowl. She was a wonderful seamstress, a good cook and baker and volunteered at the school in Nekoma and other community events. Lolo was always up for a visit from friends or family. She was extremely proud of her Icelandic heritage. She was a 4-H leader, belonged to Homemakers Club and was a member of altar societies at both St. Edwardââ¬â¢s Church in Nekoma and St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon.
Surviving Lolo are her children: Gerald (Yvonne) of Doylestown, PA, Vickie (James) Theis of Carmel, IN, Thomas of Las Vegas, NV, and Michael (Jill) of Henderson, NV; eight grandchildren: Anthony, Mark, & Adam Lorenz, Michelle & John Theis, Stephanie Theis Tebbe, and Max & Nick Lorenz; thirteen great-grandchildren, and sister Pauline ââ¬ÅPatsyââ¬Å¥ Foseide of Edinburg, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor, and four siblings: Johann (Joe), Kristjan (Kris), Marguerite (Mickey) Thomasson and Katrin (Babe) Flanigan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at St. Alphonsus Parish Center in Langdon, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the Parish Center.
