Sue Ann Burrell

Sue Ann Burrell, 69, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in her home at Bethlehem Community, Bathgate, ND. Preparation of the body was done at home, and a Wake was held that evening with the Funeral Mass on Thursday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bethlehem Community premises. Burial followed at St Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Bathgate with assistance provided through the Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier.

Sue Ann was born August 14, 1948 in Keith County Ogallala, Nebraska, the daughter of Durwood Duane and Lucy Eleanor Carey, and with three siblings. After her growing up years in Nebraska, Colorado and Utah, and time spent as a young adult in New York and California, Sue had a life-changing conversion to Christ in 1970 in Portland, Oregon. There, she also met and married Lynn Thomas Burrell. They spent the next years in New Jersey, Okinawa, Arizona and Texas as Lynn did military service, before returning to Portland with their four children—Amy, Summer, Sam and Isaac. They began relating to Bethlehem Community in 1980.

In 1991, with Bethlehem Community, the family moved to Vancouver, Washington and there, together with other members, entered the Catholic Church in 1993. In 1995 Sue with her youngest teenage son Isaac moved with Bethlehem Community to Warsaw, ND (here eventually receiving an annulment of marriage), then in 1999 to Bathgate. In the fall of 2012 a new health challenge began to prepare Sue—and her family and friends—for her earthly life’s end. Sue’s life was, and will continue to be, in its example of faith and humble trust, a source of hope for all.

Sue is survived by her brother Gerald (Jerry) Carey, sisters Sandi (Gonzales) and Stacie (Sheets); her children Amy (Ben) Anderson, Summer (Randall) Fairbairn, Samuel (Jennifer) Burrell, Isaac (Christina) Burrell; and by 15 grandchildren: Daniel, Jessica, and Isaac Fairbairn; Flynn Burrell; Simon, Galadriel, Grace, Killian, Gwyneth, Greta, Finnegan, Benedict, Gianna, Ignatius, and Zadok Burrell.
