Stewart McDonald

March 16, 1915 — October 6, 2010

Stewart McDonald, 96, of Langdon, ND passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center of Osnabrock, ND.

Stewart Archie McDonald was born March 16, 1914 to Archie and Lillie (Ullyott) MacDonald. He was born and raised on the farm his father established in Harvey Township, Cavalier County. His father died when Stewart was 15 years old at which time Stewart assumed much of the responsibilities of the family farm. He was united in marriage to Doris Dahlvang on November 27, 1937. Within what became a 73 year marriage, there was much to endure and much to celebrate. With the exception of the past year, the couple was able to remain on the farm, though they enjoyed their winters in Mesa, AZ.

Stewart loved the farm partly because it provided him with all kinds of things for him to tinker with. Even in his later years, he would keep busy fixing or repairing things. He always enjoyed fishing and hunting. Another long-time hobby of his was lapidary, or the cutting and polishing of stones.

Stewart is survived by his loving wife, Doris; two daughters, Judy (Tim) Stevens of Renton, WA and Susan (Bill) Jennings of High Springs, FL; three sons, Wayne MacDonald of Seattle, WA, Robert (Cheryl) MacDonald and Dennis MacDonald of Langdon, ND; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Lillie MacDonald; infant daughter, Jeanette; infant son, Michael; sisters, Myrtle MacDonald, Ila MacDonald, Lovisa MacDonald and Alma MacDonald and daughter-in-law, Virginia (Wayne) MacDonald.

Services will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Langdon, ND. Visitation will take place for one hour before services at the church. Interment will be at Harvey Centre Cemetery, rural Langdon.
