Sigrid Claughton

Sigrid Claughton age 98, of Cavalier, ND., died on Sunday, May 8, 2005, at the Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Sigrid Johnson was born May 5, 1907, the daughter of Tryggvi and Sigrun (Sigurdardottir) Johnson, at their farm home in Cavalier Township. She grew up and attended grade school in that area and graduated from Cavalier High School. She then attended Mayville College where she received her teachers degree. For thirty-one years she taught school, nineteen years in rural schools of Pembina County and 12 years in the Hensel and Cavalier School systems.
On June 21, 1934, she married Dewey Claughton at the Vidalin Lutheran Church, rural Hensel, ND. Dewey passed away on November 22, 1986.
Sigrid was a life-time member of the Vidalin Lutheran Church, Hensel, now a part of the Pembina Hills Parish. Other memberships included the Northeast and North Dakota Retired Teachers Association and the C.R. Green Rebekah Lodge, Cavalier, ND. She spent her lifetime parenting, teaching, sharing , and caring for others. Her calm, gentle and reserved demeanor was an attribute appreciated by all.
She is survived by daughters, Norma Jean (Gordon) Askew, Cavalier, ND., Patricia (Richard) Skarperud, Lake Metigoshe, ND., and Carole (Freddie) Kiemele, Cavalier, ND.; grandchildren, Thomas (Cheri) Askew, Bret (Gay) Kiemele, Tonja (Jon) Ketterling, Rochelle Skarperud and friend Jesse Klein, and Danielle (Ron) Stampley; great grandchildren, Patrick, Anthony, and Nicole Askew, Jarett and Derek Kiemele, Alexus, Ethan, and Autumn Ketterling, Addison, Clark, and Savannah Stampley.
Sigrid was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Rhonda Kiemele, grandson, Scott Kiemele, sister, Gertrude Johnson, and brothers, Ragnar, Helgi, and Harry Johnson.
