Shirley Lenz, 63, of Sutton, ND, died peacefully in her home, surrounded
by her family, on Saturday, October 26, 2013, after a courageous battle
with pancreatic cancer.
Shirley Ann Hansel was born to Joseph and Anna Mae (Koehmstedt) Hansel
on April 3, 1950, in Langdon, ND. She was a member of the last Senior
Class at St. Alphonsus High School, graduating in 1968. She married
Ronald Lenz on October 3, 1970, at St. Alphonsus church in Langdon, ND.
They had three children and have spent the last 30 years in Sutton, ND.
Shirley was an amazing seamstress and has made many a dress over the
years, including her own wedding dress. She was the school cook at
Midkota High School for 20 years where she treated each student as her
own. Shirley thrived on helping others and making sure everything was
done and everyone was happy. And being a cook, there was never a lack
of goodies. Her lefse, homemade buns, and pizza were family favorites.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her husband of 43 years, Ron, two
daughters: Laurie (Boyd) McKenzie of Courtenay, ND; Joanie (Ron) Somsen
of Kensal, ND; son Chad (Shannah) Lenz of Michigan, ND; 12 grandkids:
Kasandra, Leigh, Chelsea, Lacey and Addison McKenzie; Jasmyn, Mason,
Holden and Brendan Lenz; and Hayden, Berkley, and Chase Somsen, one
great-grandchild: Brighton Ackerman, her mother, Anna Mae Hansel of
Langdon, ND, two sisters, seven brothers, and several nieces and
nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was greeted in heaven by her father, Joseph Hansel, a brother, Roger
Hansel, in-laws, Art and Sue Lenz, and sister-in-law, Bonnie (Lenz) Marsh.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, beginning at 5pm
with a 7pm Prayer Service all at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon,
ND. Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the
services at the church on Wednesday.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 11:00am, at the
St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND.
Interment will be held at St. Edward's Cemetery of Nekoma, ND.
