Shirley Marie Kram, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend journeyed to her new home on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Shirley was hospitalized for 2 weeks at Sanford Health in Fargo with numerous complications, and was later made comfortable by family and staff at the Palliative Care Unit.
Shirley Schneider was born on June 8, 1921 to Peter P. and Agnes (Platz) Schneider in Wales ND, where she spent most of her life. She graduated from Wales Public School, and then attended Valley City State College. After obtaining her teaching degree, she taught elementary school for 8 years at various districts in Cavalier County. She dated and married George S. Kram on June 27, 1945 at St. Michaelââ¬â¢s Church, Wales. Together they farmed, ran a successful construction business and raised 5 children.
Shirley was a strict Mom, yet fun-loving and a faithful Catholic. The love of God, family, and friends were most important to herââ¬ânever forgetting a birthday or anniversary. Shirley spoiled her family and friends with home-cooked meals, baking, and fun-filled evenings of card playing and socializing. It was never too late to play ââ¬Åone more game of cards.ââ¬Å¥
Shirley had a deep devotion to her Catholic faith all her life, teaching CCD at St. Michaelââ¬â¢s in Wales; and later serving on the parish counsel at St. Alphonsus in Langdon. She was a lifetime member of Christian Mothers and an active Catholic Daughters of the Americas member.
Shirley was also a long time member of the Walesette Homemakers Club. Her and husband, George, loved house parties with music, dancing, or card playing. They enjoyed being active members of a square dancing club and the Wales Curling Club.
Her other loves were: the outdoors, gardening, and traveling. She loved working the soil, then canning, and sharing her abundance. She held fast to her fatherââ¬â¢s quote ââ¬Åmoney spent on traveling, is money well spentââ¬Å¥ and travel she did. Shirleyââ¬â¢s trips included numerous tours throughout the United States and abroad including countries in Europe, the Holy Land, and a pilgrimage to Yugoslavia.
Shirley is survived by 4 children: Georgeann (Lee) Gellner West Fargo, ND; Dwayne (Sally) Kram Langdon, ND; Vickie Bittner Fargo, ND; Ron (Joann) Kram Morris, MN; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, brother Ken Schneider Butte, MT; and many friends who were like sisters to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Peter P. and Agnes Schneider, her loving husband George, son Terrance, grandchildren Joshua and Abraham Kram, her sisters LaRae Schneider, Henrietta Kieffer, Floriene Miller, Charlotte ââ¬ÅSollyââ¬Å¥ Owens, Bonnie Kartes-Batko, and brothers Vernon and Norman Schneider.
A special thanks to her many friends in Wales and Langdon which she held dear to her heart, her new friends at Riverview, and those who cared so lovingly for her at Riverview, Villa Maria, and Sanford Health. God bless you all!
Letââ¬â¢s remember Shirley with her index finger wave, as she says ââ¬Ågood-byeââ¬Å¥ and awaits to welcome us all to her heavenly home.
