Selma M. Eid, 95 , of Walhalla, ND passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 10: 00 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church. Burial in the Nore Cemetery, Numedahl, ND.
Selma Madeleine Nelson was born September 24, 1914, in Fremont Township, Cavalier County, the youngest and last surviving child of Norwegian immigrants Halvor and Carrie (Kjemhus) Nelson. She attended school in Numedahl and graduated from Walhalla High School. After attending Mayville State Teachers College she began teaching at age eighteen. During most of her career she taught in country schools in Cavalier and Pembina Counties, continuing to update her credentials throughout the years. In 1970, she retired after spending some years as a remedial reading teacher at Walhalla Public School.
During her retirement she and her husband Jim briefly worked as security guards. Additionally, Selma was an Avon and Amway lady. She will be remembered for her energetic and loving spirit.
On November 14, 1946, she married James M. Eid at Walhalla Lutheran Church. They made their home in Walhalla. James died on November 16, 1988. In March of 2002, she entered the Pembilier Nursing Center.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Rick Crockett, Langdon, ND; grandsons, James (Marcie) Crockett and Dan (Barbara Rosele) Crockett, both of Langdon, and Ben Crockett, State College, PA; great grandchildren, Mathew and Sydney; nephew and adopted brother, Donald Cook Nelson, Walhalla; nephews, Larry, Charles (Lynn), Gary, and Robert Lien, all of Walhalla; grand nephew, Cory Lien, Grand Forks and grand niece, Kara Lien, Minneapolis.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, brothers, Bernard, Charles, and Helmer; sisters, Claire Nelson, Bertha Powers, Marie Nelson, and Ann Lien.
Clergy: Rev. Bob Bekkerus.
Casket Bearers: Benjamin Crockett, Daniel Crockett, James Crockett, and Cory Lien.
Music: Sharon Carpenter, Organist and Glen Symons, Soloist.
