Ruth A. Brown, age 86, of Cavalier, ND died on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, December 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial in the Bathgate Cemetery, Bathgate, ND.
Ruth A. Gibney was born August 22, 1922, at Bathgate, ND to Leslie and Clara (Lauzon) Gibney. She graduated from Bathgate High School in 1940, and then attended Sisters of St. Joseph's School of Nursing, graduating in 1943. Ruth worked as an R.N. at Rice Memorial Hospital, Wilmar, MN before serving in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corp during World War II. While in the Nurse Corp, she was stationed in Portsmouth, VA and Corona, CA. After her discharge from the service she worked at St. Anthony's and St. Luke's Hospitals in Denver.
On June 29, 1948, she married Robert A Brown at Neche, ND. After their marriage they lived in Bathgate and in 1955, moved to Cavalier. Ruth was employed for 27 years at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, retiring as Director of Nursing in 1983. Robert died on January 24, 2002.
She is survived by her children, Janet (Gary) Hartz, Poolesville, MD, R. Jim (Diane) Brown, Boca Raton, FL, Allison (Jim) Mooney, Madison, WI, David Brown, Bloomington, MN, seven granddaughters, two grandsons, six great granddaughters, two great grandsons, sister, Helen (Jerry) Fullerton, Rotonda, FL, sister-in-law, Helen (Richard) McCurdy, Cavalier.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, brother, Leslie Gibney, and sister, Irene Thacker.
In lieu of flowers memorial are preferred to the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND.
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Jason Lefor.
Military Rites: Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion.
Music: A Choir of Family Friends, Rev. Beth Peterson, Accompanist and Larry Collins Organist.
