Roy Johnson

Roy Johnson, age 82, of Hensel, ND died on Friday, June 15, 2007, at the Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial in the Andvari Cemetery, rural Cavalier, ND. Military Rites by Bjornson-Sigfusson Post #227, Mountain American Legion.
Roy Johnson was born February 18, 1925, at Akra, ND to Skafti W. and Ranka (Olafson) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in the Akra area. Roy worked with his father on the family farm, then served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. After his discharge from the service he returned to the Hensel area and worked for other carpenters. He then owned his own carpentry business that he ran until his retirement. During his retirement he enjoyed visiting and living with his children at their homes. Roy had a wonderful sense of humor with his family and friends.
On August 7, 1948, he married Laura Horgdal in Canada.
He is survived by his children, Janice Ellefson, Mesa, AZ; Randy Johnson and Marcella (Dennis) Gustafson, all of Fargo, ND; and Kenneth Johnson, Crystal, ND; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Loren; sisters, Augusta Austfjord and Helen in infancy and brothers, Clarence, Marvin, Skafti, Jr, and Bennie.
