Roy Furstenau, 94, of Cavalier, ND died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Lodema Cemetery.
Roy was born on the family farm in Lodema Township of Pembina County, on May 24, 1915, to Louis and Mary (Kihne) Furstenau. Roy attended school at the Hartje rural school near Hensel, ND until the 8th grade.
During World War II, Roy served in the US Navy. After his discharge, Roy farmed and managed the roller-skating at various town halls. That is where he met his wife, Edna Mae Snider.
On November 12, 1947, he married Edna at Hallock, MN and they made their home on the Furstenau family farm.
In the mid-seventies, Roy began to rent his farmland and started working at the Farmer's Elevator in Hensel. After he retired, he worked at the greenhouse in Cavalier.
In 1986, Roy and Edna Mae moved into the city of Cavalier. They are members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening, and his family. He also enjoyed woodworking and built many scaled models of antique and newer farm machinery and various other woodworking projects.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Edna Mae, children: Garnet (Kaye) Furstenau, Cavalier; Carol (Vic) Voecks, Hamilton; Roger (Terri) Furstenau, Cavalier; and Jeff (Pam) Furstenau, Fargo; grandchildren: Aaron (Stephanie) Furstenau and Adam Furstenau; Kristy Voecks and Darin Voecks; Brandi Furstenau, Chase (Tiffany Helgoe) Furstenau, and Lexi Furstenau; Macey (Justin) Boseck and Cody Furstenau; great-grandchildren: Rory Jo and Jack Furstenau; Abbey Jo Voecks; Jadyn Lynn Hogan; and Colby Jo Furstenau.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.

Military Rites by the Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion.
Casket Bearers: Aaron Furstenau, Adam Furstenau, Chase Furstenau, Cody Furstenau, Ronald Furstenau, Gerald Kemnitz, Myron Kemnitz, Darin Voecks.
Music: Bettie Lou Stegman, Organist and Jenny DeMell, Soloist.
