Calvin, ND

Ronald "Ron" Hotten, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and veteran, passed away peacefully in his home on November 1, 2024, at the age of 82.

Born on February 17, 1942, Ron graduated from Calvin High School and went on to attend Wahpeton A&M. He proudly served in the US Army in the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966, demonstrating unwavering commitment and bravery for his country. In 1966, Ron married his beloved wife, Diane, and together they raised four children: Kathy, Tammy, Julie, and Ronnie. Family was everything to Ron; he cherished the time spent with his loved ones and took great pride in being a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Outside of his family life, Ron had a deep passion for farming, horses, and playing his guitar. He farmed alongside Rich Flanders for 40 years, cultivating a love for the land and animals that he instilled in his family. His joy in sharing music with those around him created lasting memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Ron is survived by his children: Kathy Thoreson (Fargo), Tammy Cibula (Colorado Springs, CO), Julie Strom (Bismarck), Ronnie Hotten (Litchfield, MN), and his 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as many friends and loved ones who will cherish his memory.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 8, at 2:00 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, located at 1825 46th St, Mandan, ND 58554.
