Robert James Smith was born November 25th, 1977 to Roland and Betty Ann (Slaamod) Smith. Robert passed away January 25th, 2025 at his residence in Cavalier.
He grew up in Pembina, ND where he graduated from high school in 1997. Robert worked as a security guard at 7 Clans Casino for many years prior to moving to Cavalier, where he took on various jobs. He was an avid collector and enjoyed small appliance and motor repair. As a hobby he repurposed metal objects for artistic and practical purposes. Robert loved being outdoors and regularly went for walks and explored local woodlands. Robert had many good friends whom he enjoyed visiting-he could talk for hours about many topics. Robert will be most remembered for his generosity and willingness to help anyone who was in need, and for sending poetic or funny messages. After receiving his box of mom’s Christmas cookies, he stated: “Man vs. cookies-cookies won”.
Robert is survived by and will be missed by his mother Betty, sister Christina, and niece Alexa, as well as all his friends/neighbors in the Cavalier community. He is preceded in death by his father Roland.
Celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
