Robert J. Readel

Robert J. Readel age 84, of Cavalier, ND, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 22, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, March 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services.
Robert John Readel was born June 8, 1923, at Buchanan, ND to August and Anna Readel. He grew up and attended school in the Buchanan area. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, with the Underwater Demolition Team 18. After his discharge from the service he lived in Jamestown and later moved to Mountain, ND. He farmed in the Mountain and Walhalla areas, and moved to Cavalier in 1982.
On December 18, 1946, he married Margaret Gestson. Bob married Lucille Olson on April 15, 1982 at Cavalier.
He is survived by his wife Lucille, children, Rosman "Butch" (Myrna) Readel, Mountain, ND; Roberta (Monty) Heller, Cavalier, ND; Monica Heigaard, Mountain, ND; Peter (Pat) Readel, West Fargo, ND; Perry (Linda) Readel, Mountain, ND; stepchildren, Robert (Irene) Olson, Jamestown, ND; William (Penny) Olson, Grand Forks, ND; Judy (Gary) Kemnitz, Cavalier, ND; nine grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brother, Ted Readel, St. Paul, MN.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and six brothers.
Military Rites by the Laverne J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Jason Lefor.
Casket Bearers: Jerry Burt, Charlie Berdahl, Dick Halldorson, Don Jaster, Roger Jaster, and Earl Papenfuss.
Music: Ann Kraft, Soloist and Larry Collins, Organist.
