Robert Belanus

Robert "Bob" Belanus, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, age 86, of Walhalla, ND went to eternal rest on Sunday, July 1, 2007, at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital, Langdon, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, July 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Walhalla Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements with Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla ND.
Robert Belanus was born June 30, 1921, at Fargo, ND to William and Jennie (Bartholomew) Belanus. As an infant he moved with his parents to the family farm in rural Walhalla. He attended school at Coburn Corners.
On October 31, 1942, he married Theisla Lemm at the United Presbyterian Church in Wahkon, MN. They settled on their farm near Walhalla where they resided together for nearly 60 years until Theisla's death on May 13, 2003. He continued to live on the family farm until his death. Bob actively farmed for over 60 years. His farming partners were his father, Bill and his brother, Charles.
Bob served on the Walhalla Township Board for 30 years and was also the township constable. For many years he served as a weather recorder for the North Dakota Atmospheric Resource Board. He enjoyed keeping track of all the rainfall. He was a member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Walhalla, and the Walhalla Senior Citizens. Bob was known for his amazing garden. Many friends and family enjoyed the fruits of his labors. Besides his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Bob enjoyed reading and playing cards.
He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Irving) Klein, Las Vegas, NV; Marjorie (Robert) Pitcher, Walhalla, ND; Phyllis Jennie (Allen) Streightiff, Franktown, CO; grandchildren, Ila Pfeifer and sons, Adam, Cody, and Brandon Robert; Anna DeMyer and son, Demetrius and daughter, Alexis; Sara Pfeifer (fiance, Tom Neuman) and Sara's son Matthew; Carrie Pitcher; and Ashley and Nicole Streightiff; siblings, Charles (Hilda) Belanus and Jessie (Leonard) Urlaub, all of Walhalla, ND; Leona (Howard) McMurray, New Hope, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was also preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Daniel; and sisters, Nellie Proskurnik and Mary Blair.
