Richard C Zettel

Richard C. Zettel, 85, of Langdon, ND passed away March 23, 2006 at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.

Richard Charles Zettel was born February 21, 1921 to Stanley and Audienna (Clairmont) Zettel at their farm in Manilla Township, Cavalier County. He attended St. Alphonsus Catholic School until the 8th Grade and graduated from Langdon High School in the class of 1940. He went on to work for Anderson’s Auto in Minneapolis and later for Boeing in Seattle, WA. Richard entered the United States Navy on December 26, 1943 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was Honorably Discharged on April 3, 1946. He returned home to Langdon and worked at the A.J. Backes Oil Station. Richard began farming the Northstar farm and was united in marriage to Lillian Lick on January 1, 1948 at the Rectory of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon. They continued to farm. During the winter months he worked for the City Service Station hauling fuel. They purchased a home in Langdon in 1952, moving back and forth between the farm and Langdon, eventually living in Langdon full time. Richard became a resident of the Maple Manor Care Center on June 23, 2004. He was a member of the American Legion Post #98 and the Eagles Aerie #3454.

Richard is survived by his wife Lillian of Langdon, children; Dick Zettel of Langdon and Joanne (Bruce) Bjerke of Grand Forks, ND, grandchildren; Amy Bjerke of Fargo, Aaron (Amy) Bjerke of Fargo, Andrew (Elizabeth) Bjerke of Grand Forks, Devyn Zettel of Minot, ND, and Derek Zettel of Minot, ND great-grandchildren Emma Bjerke and Benjamin Bjerke of Fargo, ND, his brother James (Laurette) Zettel of Grand Forks, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother Alvin (Hilda) Zettel.

VISITATION Sunday March 26, 2006 beginning at 2pm with a 7:30pm Prayer Service at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Monday.

SERVICES 1:00pm Monday March 27, 2006 at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND.

INTERMENT Calvary Cemetery, Langdon, ND
