Richard Karel

Richard Rex Karel, 80, of Neche, ND passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, April 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier. Burial will be held in the Park Center Cemetery, Neche, ND. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Neche Quick Response Unit.

Richard Rex Karel was born September 22, 1933, at Walhalla, ND to Rex and Dorothy (Otten) Karel. He grew up in the Neche area and graduated from Neche High School in 1951. Richard was then employed by the Kent and Doug Vosper farm for 53 years and also operated the Karel family farm in Felson Township.

Things he enjoyed were cooking, hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. He served on the Neche City Council, Neche Economic Development Corporation and Christ Lutheran Church Council. Richard was also a member of the Tongue River Masonic Lodge and Bathgate Order of the Eastern Star.

On July 6, 1958, he married Donna Martinson at Hampden, ND. She survives as do his sons: Brad (Darcy) Karel, Bismarck, ND, Jeff (Lisa) Karel, Eagan, MN, Steve (Penny) Karel, Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Kevin (Emily) Karel and Tyler Karel; Kendra, Taylor, and Tyra Karel; Bryce and Trent Karel; sister, Dolores (Edwin) Heuchert, Cavalier, ND.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Andrew Karel.
