Ralph J. DeMaine, 89, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Pembina, ND passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, at Valley Eldercare, in Grand Forks. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church, Pembina, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 22nd from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. rosary service at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier. Burial will be held in the Pembina Cemetery.
Ralph was born December 22, 1923, near Pembina to Joseph and Elizabeth (Fritz) DeMaine. He grew up in the Pembina area where he attended school. After serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps, he returned to the Pembina area where he farmed. He also worked at Motor Coach Industries in Pembina and the Joliette Elevator and Cenex Fertilizer in Joliette.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and possessed a very contagious laugh. Spending time by the campfire, hunting, and fishing were things he also enjoyed.
On July 7, 1947, he married Theresa Bertrand at Neche, ND. She passed away on September 18, 1989.
Survivors include his daughters: Sandra (Jim) McQueen, New Town, ND, Shirley (Byron) Kuenzel, Grand Forks, Paula (Donnie) Peplow, Colstrip, MT; grandchildren: Darla (Matt) Miller, David (Lisa) McQueen; Tammy Chute, Darrin (Brandi) Kuenzel, Derrick (Rhea) Kuenzel, Tyler (Kelly) Kuenzel; Dana (Bob) Clingingsmith and Shaune (Treavor) Hendrickson; 17 great grandchildren; sisters: Laura (Charlie) Meagher, Watervliet, MI and Theresa (Leonard) Dunn, Satsuma, FL; special friend, Helen Grenlin, Oslo, MN.
Also preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Doris O'Leary.
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Daniel Mrnarvic.
Casket Bearers: Darrin, Kuenzel, Derrick Kuenzel, Dylan Kuenzel, Tyler Kuenzel, Matt Miller, and David McQueen.
