Purdy Horgan, 94, of Cavalier and formerly of Neche, ND passed away Monday, September 1, 2014, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 12, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. There will be visitation for one hour before the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Northeastern North Dakota Heritage Association. Burial will be held in the Union Cemetery, Neche, ND.
Eriles Purdy Horgan was born December 17, 1919 at Neche, ND to Joseph Christy and Louise (Thompson) Horgan. He grew up in the Neche area and graduated from Neche High School. Purdy served in the US Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. On May 6, 1942, he married Edna Mae Bechtel at Crookston, MN. After his discharge from the service he returned to the Neche area where he farmed.
He was a lifetime member of the Gainer-McAndrews Post #242 , Neche American Legion, where he served as commander and was also a member of the Northeastern North Dakota Heritage Association. Purdy was a published author, enjoyed leather work and was active in the community.
Survivors include his sons: James Horgan, Thayer MO and Tim Horgan, Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Scott Horgan, Jennifer Horgan, Danielle Willman; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Edna Mae on January 14, 1999; son, Michael Horgan; brother, Tom Horgan.
Military Rites by the North Dakota Funeral Honor Guard and the Gainer - McAndrews Post #242, Neche American Legion.
