Phyllis J. Schrader, 93, Ada, MN, formerly of Clyde, ND, died Monday, September 19, 2011, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
Phyllis Juanita King was born September 16, 1918, in Starkweather, ND, to Grover and Elizabeth ââ¬ÅBessieââ¬Å¥ (Richardson) King. She attended schools in Starkweather and Warwick, ND, and spent her senior year, graduating in 1936, from Downers Grove, Illinois. She continued her education at Valley City (ND) Teachers College, graduating with a teaching degree. Her teaching career included working in country schools as well as Egeland and Clyde, ND. She told stories about riding in a horse drawn sleigh to work during heavy snow storms. On June 26, 1940, she married Wilfred ââ¬ÅTinyââ¬Å¥ Schrader at her grandparen'ts home in Warwick. They lived and farmed east of Clyde, ND. Tiny died in March, 1980 and Phyllis remained on the farm until 1998, then moved to MN to be nearer her sister, Ethelwyn McBain.
Phyllis was an active and dedicated member of Clyde Methodist Church until its closing, more recently attending Rothsay Baptist Church, in Rothsay, MN. She enjoyed her many special friends there until moving to assisted living in Ada, MN. Phyllis had a special sense of humor bringing a smile to all she met. She especially enjoyed having coffee and playing games with friends and family.
Phyllis is survived by her sister: Judy (John) Waalkens of Glenville, MN; brother-in-law: Darrell McCain of Commerce City, CO; nieces and nephews: Beverly (Don) Gillaspie of Gatesville, TX, Cindy Huffman of Horace, ND, Jerry (Linda) McBain of Moorhead, MN, Tammie (Chuck) Ruebke of Ada, MN, Cheryl (Pat) Neilon of MN, Randy Waalkins of MN, Cindy (Scott) Golbuff of MN, Sandy Waalkins of MN, Barry (Tammie) McCain of CO, Linda (Ron) Lappala of MT, Rick (Caroline) McCain of CO, Kelly McCain of CO, Larry (Judy) Schrader of West Fargo, ND, Ethel (John) Matti of Anoka, MN, Diane (Gary) Smith of Tucson, AZ, and Doris Lovett of Spring Hill, FL; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and close cousins: Vivian Kee of Reseda, CA, John Richardson of Camarillo, CA, Ben Richardson of Redman, WA, and Dick Pitman of Chester, VA. She is preceded in death by her husband Tiny, sisters Ethelwyn McBain and Pat McCain, niece Royetta McBain, and nephew Sharon Schrader.
Funeral Service: 2:00pm Friday, September 23, 2011 at Fredrikson Funeral Home Chapel, Ada, MN, with visitation 2 hours before the service.
Burial: Clyde Cemetery, Clyde, ND, Saturday, September 24th at 1:00pm.
