Parnell W. Kartes, 84, of Langdon, ND and formerly of Wales, ND passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Cavalier County Memorial Hospital of Langdon.
Parnell was born on October 7, 1927 to Frank J. and Olive (Hell) Kartes near Mt. Carmel, ND. He attended country school near Mt. Carmel. Parnell married Jean Girodat on August 1, 1950 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Parnell then served in the US Army and was sent to Korea. After serving in the Army, Parnell returned to the area and purchased a farm near Wales, ND. He retired from farming in 1993 but continued to help on the family farm. Parnell also was a rural mail carrier for 26 years, retiring in 1994. Parnell and Jean moved to Langdon in 2000.
Parnell enjoyed hunting, fishing, and a good game of pinochle. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir. Parnell served as a supervisor on the Dresden Township Board and was a member of the Langdon Eagles Club, American Legion, Cavalier County Wildlife Club, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church of Mt. Carmel, St. Michaelââ¬â¢s Catholic Church of Wales, and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon.
Parnell is survived by his wife: Jean; children: Wayne of Rolla, ND, Deb (Dave) Zwingel of Rugby, ND, Donna Sager of Wales, ND, Lynn (Tammi) of Sykeston, ND, Laverne ââ¬Å¥Frankââ¬Å¥ of Hillsboro, ND, Randy of Devils Lake, ND, Rick (Laurie) of Wales, ND; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Gloria Johnson of Fargo, ND, Carl (Ivy) of Walhalla, ND, Ben (Marie) of Seattle, WA, Mike of Plains, MT, Gary (Gloria) of Seattle, WA, Lee (Linda)of Seattle, WA, and Judith Antoine of Casselton, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Betty Loreth, Ivadell Gapp, Pat Kartes, & Darreld Kartes.
VISITATION: Friday, April 13, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 prayer service at Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND.
INTERMENT: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery of Mt. Carmel, ND
