Ovidia (Vid) Ritter, 99, of Langdon, ND passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.
Ovidia Helena Barstad was born on July 31, 1912 to Henry and Mable (Halvorson) Barstad in Edmore, ND. Vid moved with her family to Calvin when she was six years old and then to Sarles and graduated from there in 1930. After high school she went to work for John & Margaret Ritter cooking in the cook car for the men. She married Norris Ritter on October 24, 1934. Vid and Norris lived in several places in Huron Township until building a house close to the Huron School in 1948. Norris and Vid were able to enjoy 25 winters in Apache Junction, AZ. They loved to travel and were even able to travel to Alaska in 1978. In 1979, Norris and Vid moved to Munich, ND. Norris passed away on February 28, 1993. Vid had most recently been a resident of Maple Manor Care Center.
Vid spent many hours sewing most of the clothes for her family. She was a 4-H leader for 25 years, an active member of the Methodist Church of Clyde where she served as president of the UMW, president of Clyde PTA, member of United Methodist Church of Langdon and a member of the Pleasant Hour Homemakers Club. She loved to cook and bake, especially for her family and friends.
Ovidia is survived by her children: Richard Norris (Bernetta) Ritter of Munich, ND, Carole Jean (Carter) Sharff of Christine, ND, and Gloria Gail (Armond) Romfo of Langdon, ND; 6 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Gerald Dean, siblings Herby Barstad, Maurice Barstad, Alvina (Elmer) Mitchell, Hilda Barstad, Marie Price and Hazel (Alfred) Kinnenun.
Services will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church of Langdon, ND. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 prayer service at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. Visitation will also take place for one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church. Interment will be in the spring at Salem Evangelical Cemetery, rural Munich, ND.
