Oswald Metzger

Oswald (Ozzie) Severius Metzger, 97, of Langdon, ND, peacefully passed away September 2, 2013, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND.

Ozzie was born December 15, 1915, to Zeno and Rose (Rieland) Metzger. He was born on the farm where he was raised near Mt. Carmel, ND, and attended school in Mt. Carmel Township. On July 22, 1946, he married Isabelle Agar at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, and they made their home on the family farm where Ozzie was raised. There they raised their own family of three sons and one daughter. They remained on the family farm until recent years when they began to make their home in Fargo for the winter months and enjoyed staying at the farm in the summer months.

Ozzie loved the farm, family gatherings, and a good night of card games. He will be remembered for his character, his charm, integrity, and his sense of humor. He will be missed greatly by all whose lives were touched by him. He lived independently and with purpose right up to the last few weeks of his life.

Ozzie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Isabelle; sons: Terry (Cathy) Metzger of Valley City, ND, Tom (Karen) Metzger of Sioux Falls, SD, Craig Metzger and fiancé Brenda Bush of Huron, SD; and daughter Stacie (Garth) Heiden of Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Shannon, Bill, Laura, Angela, Daniel, Susan, Amanda, Matt, Garret, and Paige; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Bert, Harold, Al, Neil, and Oswald (died in infancy) and sisters: Hilda, Pauline, Florence, and Leone.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, ND.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday.
