Oliver J Gregory was born in Fosston, MN on August 7, 1923 to Oliver and Sadie Flesch Gregory. He died February 11 in Walhalla, ND at the age of 94. He attended school in Fosston and graduated high school in Fisher, MN. Although financially things were difficult during that time he was blessed with wonderful and loving parents and brother. He asked his mother not to buy him that suit for graduation she had been saving for because later in the week, after graduation he and his brother Bob were to report to boot camp at Fort Snelling to start their service in the U.S. Army during WWII.
During his time in the army he served in Europe in the anti-aircraft division achieving the rank of sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
After the war he traveled to California to be with his girlfriend and soon to be wife, Susan Fournier from Red Lake Falls, MN, who worked at the Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California. They spent several years enjoying California where he worked as a private security police officer.
They moved back to Minnesota to get married and start a family. They ran a dance hall and tavern at Key West, MN. He took a job as a salesman at Saul Motor Company in Crookston. Later the family moved to Grafton, ND where he became general manager at Kievel Ford. He later bought the Ford dealership in Cavalier opening Gregory Ford in 1959 where he would be active in the dealership for over 50 years. He was, as many would say, the ultimate super salesman. He was genuinely interested in people, their lives and the stories they had to tell. He made many loyal customers and friends during his time in Cavalier and enjoyed being part of the community. He was an active member of the Cavalier American Legion and St Brigid's Catholic Church.
Oliver's wife, Susan died in 1971. His son, John died at the age of 7 in 1966. He is survived by 3 sons, Mike and Mark (Barb) of Cavalier, and James of Fosston, MN. He has two grandchildren, Sarah (Alex) Jorgensen of Lino Lakes, MN and Jack (Bonnie) Gregory of Grand Forks, and good friend Delores Greenwood.
