Norman Ray, age 88 of Cavalier, ND died on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cavalier. Burial will be in the Cavalier City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28 at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.
George Norman Ray, the son of Joseph and Rosezena (Littlejohn) Ray, was born on April 20, 1919 at Glasston, North Dakota. It was there where he was raised and received his early education. He graduated from St. Thomas High School with the Class of 1937.
Norm was united in marriage to Erlene Morden on November 1, 1941 in Cavalier, and to this union two children were born.
The couple farmed for many years until 1967 when they moved to Cavalier and Norm went to work as a parts salesman for several businesses in Cavalier until his retirement. He enjoyed his work and remained active in his retirement. Norm will be remembered as a patient man who dearly loved other people. He cared deeply for his family and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norm was a member of the Hamilton Presbyterian Church and also a 4-H Leader. He collected toy tractors and did much woodworking. One of his particular joys were his coffee groups around town.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Erlene Ray of Cavalier, ND; his son: Howard (Karen) Ray of Grafton, ND; his daughter: Connie (Jim) Voeller of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren: Philip (Rachel) Ray, Heidi (Travis) Sanger, Paul (Keeley) Ray, Nicole (Jerry) Brooks, Michelle (Dan) Corriell, and Mike Voeller; five great-grandchildren: Annika, Emily, Rylan, Gabrielle, and Grace; two brothers: Raymond Ray of Issaquah, WA and Percy (Delores) Ray of Linnwood, WA; two sisters: Grace (Lavern) Renwick of Fargo, ND and Gloria Hinkle of Elk River, MN; other relatives and friends.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roscoe; and one sister, Roberta.
Clergy: Rev. Adrian Olson.
Casket Bearers: Philip Ray, Paul Ray, Mike Voeller, Travis Sanger, Dan Corriell, Jerry Brooks, Ken Morden, Duane Dunn, and Curtis Dunn.
Music: Rodger Hartz, Soloist and Cheryl Hartz, Organist.
