Neil McGillivray

Neil McGillivray, 88, of Cavalier, ND and formerly of Bathgate, ND passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 28th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Bathgate Cemetery.
John Neil McGillivray was born September 30, 1927 at Grafton, ND to John Thompson and Bertha (Stratton) McGillivray. He grew up in the Bathgate area and graduated from Bathgate High School. From March of 1946 to September of 1947 he served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the service he returned to the Bathgate area where he farmed. Neil enjoyed deer hunting and reading. He was a member of the Cavalier American Legion, Trinity Methodist Church, and served as Bathgate Township Supervisor for many years. Neil was very strong in his faith and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible study.
On October 2, 1954, he married Betty Surerus at Cavalier, ND. She passed away March 4, 2013.
He is survived by two children: Tim (Martha) McGillivray, Pembina, ND and Maureen (Tom) Swanson, Hallock, MN; grandchildren: Scott McGillivray, Eagan, MN, Ryan (Anna) McGillivray, Fargo, ND, Shannon Swanson, Fargo, ND, Ericka Swanson, Hallock, MN.
Also preceding him in death were his parents.
