Myrtle I. Kemp, 91, of Cavalier, ND passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Wedgwood Manor, Cavalier. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial will be held in the Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, ND.
Myrtle was born June 24, 1921, near Hamilton, ND to Stanley and Roberta (Menzies) Smillie. She grew up and attended school in the Hamilton area. On October 27, 1939, she married Willis Kemp at Grafton, ND. After their marriage they farmed in the Hamilton area, where Myrtle was a farmer's wife and homemaker. Cooking and baking were Myrtle's claim to fame.
She was the Prattford Janes 4-H leader, member of Eastern Star, Prattford Homemakers and then Hamilton Homemakers. As a member of the Hamilton Methodist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her children: Dennis (Judy) Kemp, Park River, ND, Douglas (Delores) Kemp, Cavalier, Gayle (Don) Geiger, Bonita Springs, FL, Paul Kemp, Drayton, ND, Jeffrey (JoEllen) Kemp, El Paso, TX, Steve Kemp, Hamilton; grandchildren: John and Scott Kemp, Debbie Midgarden; Susann Kemp-Ault and Stacey Kemp; Shannon Schoolmeesters; Christopher Kemp, Sarah Tabbut, and Preston Kemp; Nathan and Joseph Kemp; great grandchildren: Joy, Jeremy, Megan, Annika, Karah, Anya, Nora, and Adelynn; siblings: Robert (Jean) Smillie, Fargo, ND and Carol Sparrow, Mesa, AZ; sisters-in-law: Grace (Marvin) Gunderson and Shirley Kemp, all of Cavalier.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Willis on January 1, 1997; and one grandson.
