Myrtle A. Johnson age 87 of Cavalier and formerly of Walhalla, ND died on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 20006 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Hallson Cemetery, rural Cavalier, ND.
Myrtle Alice Shannon was born July 25, 1918, at Vang, ND, to John and Etta (Rutherford) Shannon. She grew up in Pembina County.
On January 21, 1942, she married John Wilbert Johnson at Hallock, Minnesota. They farmed south of Walhalla. Myrtle worked at the Pembilier Nursing Center, cooking and baking for 27 and a half years. John Wilbert Johnson died on April 28, 1975. Since May of 1996, she has been a resident of the Wedgewood Manor.
She was active in the Peters Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Svold Ladies Aide.
She is survived by her children, John Robert Johnson, Grand Forks, ND and Lorraine (Doug) Wessels, Neche, ND; grandchildren, Wayne Robert Johnson, Traci Lynn Daley, Curtis Lee Johnson, and Jill Ellen Wessels Jerome; great grandchildren, Merideth Johnson, Kaley Ellen Jerome, Tabatha and Sean Daley; brother, Gilbert Shannon, Minneapolis, MN.
Myrtle was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and five brothers.
