Mildred C. Snell, 91, of Cavalier, ND, died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 19, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. service at the church. Burial in the St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery.
Mildred Cecilia Nowatzki was born October 4, 1919, at Mount Carmel, ND, to Hugo W. and Gertrude (Johnson) Nowatzki. She grew up in Cavalier and graduated from Cavalier High School.
On February 12, 1938, she married Charles Garnett Snell at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, where she was a lifelong member and involved with St. Theresa's Guild.
Mildred dedicated herself to her family, which included her husband, nine children, numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, siblings and their families, and special people in her life Laverne, Patty, and Marlene. She was active in the community where she worked at the Dairy Queen, babysat for several local families, and was a member of the Cavalier Art Theatre. Mildred spent a lot of her time at the Cavalier and Neche senior centers. Her favorite activities were playing bingo, card games, cooking, and baking. Working in her flower gardens made her feel closer to the Lord.
Survivors include her children: Barbara (Donald) Wenlund, Happy Valley, OR; Arthur Snell, Cavalier; Rita (Lawrence) Jerome, Garrison, ND; Father Roger Snell, Edgeley, ND; Gerald "Joe" (Joyce) Snell, Grand Forks, ND; Sandra (Bert) Johnson, Walhalla, ND; Patrick (Dorothy) Snell, Neche; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; siblings: Charles Nowatzki, Bakersfield, CA; Del Nowatzki, Brainerd, MN; Mary (Vincent J.) Suave, Duluth, MN.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Charles; sons: John and Robert Snell; and eight siblings: Harold, Hugo, Dorothy and Cecil Nowatzki, Gertrude McMillan, Margaret Paul, and two infant brothers.
