Melvin E.. Stegman age 71 of Neche, ND died on Saturday, August 19, 2006, at his home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 21st from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the United Lutheran Church in Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services on Tuesday. Burial in the Neche Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements with Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Melvin E. Stegman was born February 11, 1935, at Neche to Gustav and Gunda (Wiesenthal) Stegman. He grew up in the Neche area where he attended country school in Felson Township and later Neche High School. After attending the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, he worked at Boeing in Seattle. He then returned to the Neche area where he farmed his entire life.
On November 12, 1954, he married Diane Patterson at Walhalla, ND.
He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Neche, ND.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Doug (Janet) Stegman, Cavalier, ND; Greg (Tami) Stegman, Neche, ND and Julie (Brian) Hardy, Walhalla, ND; grandchildren, Brian, Ian, and Samantha Stegman; Nicole (Joe) Safranski and Travis Stegman; and Dustin Hardy; step-granchildren, Calvin and Riley Eklund, and Melissa Johnson; sisters, Eileen (George) Winkler, Neche, ND; Lois (James) Otto, Edinburg, ND; and Janice (Bruce) Large, Mahnomen, MN.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Denae Stegman
