Mavis Dorion, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 11, 2016, at The Legacy in Delano, MN, where she had resided for the past three years. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Pembina, ND. Burial will be held in the Pembina Cemetery, Pembina, ND. She was such a sweet, loving lady and will be deeply missed by her family and the many friends whose heart she touched.
Mavis was born on August 11, 1922, in Morris, Manitoba. After graduating from high school, she went to nursing school in Winnipeg. After a brief career as a nurse, she married Byron Dorion on December 26, 1945. Mavis and Byron lived in Pembina, ND, throughout their lives and she was kept busy raising their seven children. Things were tight financially but she always provided plenty of tender loving care. She looked forward to the occasional summer vacations at the family cabin in Keewatin, Ontario. Mavis enjoyed baking, bike riding, playing the piano, singing, dancing, playing cards and board games, doing crossword puzzles, and visiting with friends and family. She took a job late in life at the school in Pembina where she spent two hours a day helping in the kitchen and washing dishes. She enjoyed visiting with the kids over lunch hour and made many friends there before retiring in 2000 at the age of 77.
She is survived by her children: Karen (Don) Bjornson, Centuria, WI; Ellen Lundgren, Cleveland, TN, Rick (Marlene) Dorion, Rockford, MN, Teresa (Ed) McCune, Sterling, IL, Denis (Shelly) Dorion, Mound, MN, Mavis (Rick) Shine, Bismarck, ND; son-in-law, Ed Irving, Grand Forks, ND; 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren.
