Mathilda Linda Dick

Mathilda Linda Dick, 80, of Langdon, formerly of Munich, died April 16, 2007, at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital in Langdon, ND.

Mathilda Linda Ortmann, was born March 15, 1927, in Dolan, SD to Hellmuth and Helena (Tieszen) Ortmann. She moved to Munich with her family when she was two years old. She graduated from Bethany Bible School of Munich and then went on to graduate from Munich Public High School on May 31, 1946.

Mathilda married Leverne E. Dick on June 7, 1946, at Salem Mennonite Church in Munich, ND. Mathilda and Leverne lived in Omaha, NE for 18 months while Leverne was a student at Grace Bible Institute. They returned to Munich and farmed there until 1980, they then moved into the city of Munich in May 1980.

Mathilda was baptized at the Salem Mennonite Church as a public confession of her faith in Jesus Christ. She remained a life-long member there. Mathilda was very involved in her church and community supporting her husband and children. She participated in Be Ye Doers, the church library, PTO, and was an adult Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed reading, Scrabble, her diary, embroidery, and quilting. She lived out her faith with her regular correspondence to her family, missionaries, and friends. Her home was always open and she graciously served all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leverne E. Dick on April 13, 1993, one grandson Brian Dick and two sisters, Martha Thiessen and Mildred Dick. Survivors include nine sons and four daughters: Larry (Sandi) Dick, Edinburg, TX; Cheryl (Duane) Derksen, Mt. Lake, MN; Charlotte (Allen) Derksen, Rochester, MN; Warren (Carol) Dick, Wooster, OH; Cordell (Mary Anderson) Dick, Bismarck, ND; Merwin (Arlene) Dick, Mt. Lake, MN; Bonnie (Dwight) Johnson, Ames, IA; Stanley (Peri) Dick, Munich, ND; Vivian (Jeff) Kroll, Worthington, MN; Virgil (Linda) Dick, Whitehall, WI; Lyndon (Ellen) Dick, Munich, ND; Trenton (Debbie) Derrick, Rathdrum, ID; Brandt (Janelle) Dick, Bismarck, ND; 56 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. Surviving her are also her siblings Albert (Lenore) Ortmann of Billings, MT and Hilda Hoffman of Juneau, AL.

Services will be Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 10:30 am at Salem Mennonite Church in Munich, ND. Larry Dick, Merwin Dick and Jeff Kroll will officiate.

Burial will be at the East Salem Mennonite Cemetery, in rural Munich, ND.

Special music will be provided by her family with Maxine Janzen, pianist, and Gladys Hoffman, organist, accompanying. Pallbearers are grandsons: Delwin Derksen, Joshua Brekke, Phil Derksen, Matt Derksen, David Derksen, Carson Anderson, Josiah Dick, Evan Johnson, Jared Dick, Jesse Dick, Jonas Dick, Jaxon Dick, Ethan Dick and Taylor Derrick. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of Mathilda’s grandchildren.

A prayer service will be held on Friday April 20, 2007 at 7:30 pm at the Maple Manor Care Center Chapel in Langdon, ND.
