Mary Jane Melland

Mary Jane Melland, 80, Northwood, died Friday November 24, 2006 in Northwood Deaconess Health Center.

Mary Jane Adams was born January 4, 1926 to Wrily G. Adams and Clara (Booth) Adams in Sisseton, SD.

She grew up in Auburn, WA graduating from high school in Tacoma, WA. On June 19, 1946 she married Bennie O. Melland in Fairdale, ND. They lived in Edmore from 1949 to 1953. They moved to Medina, ND in 1953 moving to Jamestown, ND in 1964. Mary Jane began working at the North Dakota State Hospital in March of 1965. She retired as Executive Director of Housekeeping and Laundry Services in 1990. In 1992, they lived near Fairdale, moving to Langdon in 1997. Mary Jane entered Northwood Deaconess Health Center in March 2006. Her husband, Bennie, died in May, 2006.

She is survived by two sons, Clifford (Linda), Fairdale, Bruce (Dawn), Caldwell, Idaho; a daughter, Ruth (Thomas) Coughlin, Fargo; one sister, Irene Sylvester, Bakersfield, CA; five sisters-in-law, Mae (Walter) Melland, Grand Forks; Ilene (Orlon) Schanz and Annie Skytland both of Langdon, Lois Melland, Fairdale, Rene Melland, Kenmare, ND; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial service: Saturday December 2, 2006 at 2:00pm in Our Redeemers Lutheran Church, Fairdale.

Burial: Sylvesta Cemetery, Fairdale.
