Marvin Moen

Marvin Moen, 76, of Nekoma, ND passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 in Grand Forks, ND.

Marvin Elwood was born June 19, 1937 to Oscar and Ethel (Jacobson) Moen. He attended grade school in Highland Center and graduated from Nekoma High School in 1955. Marvin spent ten years in construction work. In 1965, he started farming and raising registered Angus cattle. Marvin married Jean Johnston Dietz on November 9, 1968 in Langdon, ND. They built a new house on the farm in 1971 and continued living there until June of 2013. Marvin retired from farming and raising cattle in 2001. He worked for Haraseth Brothers until January 2013. Marvin truly loved farming and raising cattle.

Marvin enjoyed fishing up in Canada and going to Elizabeth’s cabin at the lake. He was a member of the Fairdale Elevator Board for 24 years and served as president for 12 years, Cenex/Farmers Union Board in Lawton, Nekoma School Board, ND Angus Association for which he was named 1994 Angus Man of the Year, Nekoma Presbyterian Church Session, and Langdon Presbyterian Session. He was currently a member of Langdon Presbyterian Church.

Marvin and Jean have resided at Park Wood Place in Grand Forks, ND since June. A big thank you to Dr. Joel Johnson of Park Riverand Dr. Khaled Rabadi of Grand Forks and their staff for the care they gave Marvin these last few years.

Surviving Marvin are his wife, Jean; children: Gavin (Kathy) Dietz of Bismarck, ND, Elizabeth Moen of Park Rapids, MN; daughter-in-law Judy Dietz of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren: Dirk (Tracey) Dietz of Grand Island, NE, Jeramy Dietz of Cedarville, CA, Brandon Dietz & Joshua Dietz of Thornton, CO; great-grandchild Scotlyn Dietz of Grand Island, NE; sister Ellen Helm of Vancouver, WA and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Scott Dietz, sister Joan Gjesdal, and brother-in-law Orlando Gjesdal.

Services: Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Langdon Presbyterian Church of Langdon, ND.

Visitation: Friday, January 3, 2014 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.

Interment: Nekoma Lutheran Cemetery in the spring
