Marlys Loewen

Marlys E. Loewen, 75, of Langdon, ND passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.

Marlys Eileen Harveland was born April 13, 1939 in Devils Lake, ND to Iver Harveland and Myrtle (Bjorland) Harveland Thorson. She attended school in Hampden, graduating in 1957. Marlys married Kenneth Loewen on July 25, 1957 in Zoar Lutheran Church in Hampden. She and Kenny farmed near Alsen, and after their children were grown, Marlys started as cook at the high school in Langdon. She worked there for 15 years along with substitute bus driving for her husband. Marlys also decorated hundreds of cakes as a side business. After wintering in town for several years, Marlys and Kenny moved to Langdon permanently in 2007.

Marlys enjoyed quilting, sewing doll clothes, crocheting, playing cards and many other games with the grandkids. She loved telling stories and jokes, especially Ole and Lena jokes. Marlys also liked to exercise with the �girls’ at the Activity Center. She and Kenny frequently went to the Langdon Eagles or Nekoma for supper and to visit with friends. Marlys was a member of the local Friendship Stars Quilters Guild, Lake Region Quilt Guild, and Emmanuel Evangelical Church and women’s group.

Marlys is survived by her husband, Kenny; children: Keith of Ellendale, ND, Kim (Jay) Fuller of Ellendale, ND, Kent of Langdon, Kirk (Linda) of Hankinson, ND, Kory (Joleen) of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren: Kristopher, Kelly, Klaire, Tiffany, Cody, Brady, Kiley, Dacey, Nikki, Jordan, Katelyn, Kalvin, Kirstan, Kraig, Krystal Jo, Kordell; great-grandchildren: Morgan, Marnee, Nadine, Bentley, Sheldon, Layla, Spencer; siblings: Elden “Bud” (Jan) Harveland of Fargo, ND, Wayne (Linda) Harveland of Seattle, WA, and Carol (Al) Veer of Langdon; step-sisters: Doris (Leonard) Lien of Devils Lake, ND, Elaine (Gerald) Knutt of Tucson, AZ; step-brother Robert Thorson of Oregon; two special aunts: Martha Larson and Oline Burkhart; and many special cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Katie Fuller, sister Arlene Stewart, and brother Gordon Harveland.

Prayer Service: Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 5:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Church of Langdon, ND

Interment: Bethel Cemetery, rural Langdon
