Marlene Winkler, 78, of Neche, ND passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Nereus and Achilleus Catholic Church, Neche, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, March 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Burial will be held in the Neche Union Cemetery.
Joyce Marlene Renaud was born May 12, 1934, at Neche to John and Blanche (Lupien) Renaud. She grew up in Neche, attended a Catholic boarding school in Fargo, and graduated from Neche High School.
On August 22, 1953, she married Lawrence Gus Winkler at Houston, TX. After their marriage she worked as a secretary at Motor Coach Industries. In 1970, they purchased Renaud's Bar in Neche and operated it as the L and M Inn, which she ran until the time of her passing. Lawrence passed away on November 15, 2003. Marlene enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting, and cooking.
Survivors include her children: Darnell (Mary) Winkler, St. Vincent, MN, Dwight Winkler, Neche, DaVonne (Jamie) Sloan, Leroy, ND, Duane Winkler, Neche, DesaRae (Tom) Zaharia, Pembina, ND; grandchildren: Kari and Karla; Misty, Doug, and Tiffany; Jennifer, Julie, and Jodi; Kristopher; Chelsey, Carly, Joseph, and Joshua; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Rodney Renaud, Minot, ND.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; son, W. Darwin Winkler; daughter-in-law, Anna Winkler, and brother, Doug Renaud.
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Jude Okafor.
Music: Rene Cashin, Cantor and Bernadine Kopf, Organist.
Casket Bearers: Audie Cameron, Glenn Danielson, Terry De Maine, Rick Lupien, Roger Lupien, Loren Weiss.
