Mark Johnstone

H. Mark Johnstone age 60 of Walhalla, ND and formerly of Fargo, ND died of cancer on Saturday, October 14, 2006, at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 17th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Walhalla, ND. Burial in the Walhalla Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements with Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla, ND.
H. Mark Johnstone was born at home in Walhalla on September 25, 1946. He attended Walhalla Public School and N.D.S.U. where he received his B.S. in History and Education. While at N.D.S.U. he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
In 1967, Mark enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. After his discharge, he returned to N.D.S.U. to study for his M.B.A. After finishing college, Mark was employed as a manager by K.F.C. for two years and by the N.D.S.U. Center for Economic Development for eight years as a research analyst. Mark and his partner, Jim Specht, established J&S Marketing and later Mark worked in the commercial construction industry.
Mark was predeceased by his father, Hector Johnstone and sister, Holly Johnstone-Hartigan.
He is survived by his mother, Ethyl Johnstone; brother, Hector (Karen) Johnstone; sisters: Heather Johnstone, Hilary (Dennis) Beste, Hope Johnston (Roger Carrier), and Haidee Johnstone (Michael Skjei); nieces and nephews: Mark Wall, Andrea Wall, Tierney Dunnigan, Shannon Dunnigan Larson, Andrew Johnstone, Kathryn Johnstone Reeves, Samantha Beste Ward, Travis Beste, Kyle Beste, Deirdre Lee, Mogan Lee; uncle, Daryl (Bette) Strong; cousins: Jaryl Strong, Chryl Strong DeSautel, Roma Strong Zanders, Caroline Strong Clark; and other relatives.
He was greatly loved and will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Walhalla Beautification Committee, Disabled Veterans, or the St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
