Marie Janzen, 100, of Munich, ND passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, ND.
Marie Hoffman Janzen was born on January 3, 1920, in Banner Township near Munich, ND. She was the third child of Louis L. and Katie (Harder) Hoffman. Marie went to Banner School for first grade, and when the family moved, she attended Munich School. As a teenager she often helped her grandparents, Ludwig and Maria Hoffman, as well as aunts and uncles. Many times, she was the cook and babysitter when new babies joined a family. Marie married John Janzen on June 4, 1941. Their first home was on Highway 20 until 1943 when they moved to the farm northeast of Munich where they made their home for 39 years. During this time, she was a mother to Harvey and JoAnne, a homemaker, and a helper with farm work. She was a member of the Salem Mennonite Church.
In 1982, Marie and John moved to Munich, where they enjoyed 28 years in their home on 4th Avenue. She loved to garden and kept a lovely yard with many flowers. In 2010 they relocated to Lake Country Manor in Devils Lake. They celebrated nearly 71 years of marriage before John passed away in 2012. Marie moved to Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon in 2018.
Marie is preceded in death by husband, John; her parents, Louis L and Katie Hoffman; a grandson, Scott Daniels; brothers Albert (Anne) Hoffman and Jacob (Hilda) Hoffman; sister Ann (Clarence) Dick and infant sister Katherine Hoffman; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Walter Roquet, Henry (Angie) Janzen, Katie (Sandy) Belsvig, Mary (Chris) Ellertson, Helen (Gerhardt) Borgen, and Sarah (Allen) Loewen.
Marie is survived by her son, Harvey (Maxine) Janzen of Munich, ND; her daughter, JoAnne Daniels, of Bismarck, ND; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren: BethAnn (David) Ullyott and their children, Benjamin and Sarah, of Bakersfield, CA, John (Patricia) Janzen of Riverview, FL, Jolene Daniels of Bismarck, ND, and Judy Daniels and her children, Andrew and Abby, of Bismarck, ND; two brothers, Louis (Helen) Hoffman and Herb (Gladys) Hoffman; one sister, Evelyn Roquet; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
