Marguerite Jenson

Marguerite Jenson, age 100, of Neche, ND, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 18, 2009, at11:00 a.m. at the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Neche Union Cemetery.
Marguerite Nevens was born July 1, 1908, at Neche, ND to William and Mary (McNamara) Nevens. She grew up at Neche, graduating from Neche High School in 1926. After receiving her teachers certificate from Mayville Teachers College, she taught at a rural school for one year.
On September 19, 1928, she married Harold Jenson at Hallock, MN. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Neche area. For over 54 years she wrote the column "Thru the Years" for the Cavalier Chronicle and also wrote for the Walhalla Mountaineer. She was also honored at the University of North Dakota Writers Conference.
She was a member of the Neche Senior Citizens, Gainer-McAndrews American Legion Auxiliary , PTA, Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club, all of Neche. Marguerite also served as President of Federated Women's Club, North Dakota Rebekah Assembly, and Pembina County Pioneer Daughters. She received the Outstanding Performance Award for the Pembina County Chapter of the March of Dimes and the Clara Barton Award given by the Red Cross.
Survivors include her children, Evelyn Borg, International Falls, MN, Maureen (Russell) Askew, Cavalier, ND, and James R. Jenson, Grand Forks, ND, 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Harold on October 19, 1995, children, Dorothy Vosper, Patricia Berthold, Sharon Throndset, John Jenson, and Harold, Jr. "Sonny" Jenson, grandson, Bruce Borg, great grandchild, Liam Kuklok, and siblings, Dorothy Grieve, Kathleen Nevens, Zoe Beaudrie, and Bill Nevens.
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Jason Lefor.
Casket Bearers: Mark Askew, Kurt Berhold, Glenn Borg, Boomer Jenkins, Bryan Jenson, John Jenson, Robbie Jenson, Jim McConnachie, William Throndset, and Steve Throndset.
Honorary Pallbearers: The Neche Community and Staff of Wedgewood Manor, Russell Askew, Don Cook, Wayne Jenson, Pete Kostiuk, Frederick Lembke, Earl Morrison, Lawson Paton, Herby Pegg, David Quaife, Scott Reck, and Arlen Thorndset.
