Magnus G. Eyrikson age 83, of Walhalla, ND died Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 6, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service and masonic service at the church. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND. Arrangements with Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla, ND.
Magnus Gudmunder Eyrikson was born January 20, 1923, at Mountain, ND to Eyrikur and Gudbjorg (Kristjansdottir) Eyrikson. He grew up in Walhalla where he attended school. He worked as a laborer in southern California and Seattle prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1943. In 1945, he was honorably discharged and then started in the restaurant business. He owned and operated a house painting business for 30 years.
On December 30, 1958, he married Lucille Schwartz in Walhalla.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and collecting antiques. He took pride in his Icelandic heritage and liked to talk with friends and family in Icelandic. Magnus also spent much time on the land he owned in the Pembina Gorge, as it brought him great joy.
Magnus was a lifelong member of the Walhalla Lutheran Church, American Legion, and also a member of the Walhalla Masonic Lodge, Tongue River Masonic Lodge in Cavalier, and Walhalla Order of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; daughter, Elsie (Larry) Grossman, Northwood, ND; grandchildren; Corey Grossman, Grand Forks, ND and Rachel Grossman, Northwood, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
Magnus was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bert, Chris, Oscar and Otto; sisters, Elsie Hyde, Ena Graveline Snydal, Emily Burt, Sella Wendt Johnston, and Asta Asmundsdottir.
Clergy: Rev. Don Swenson
Casket Bearers: Bill Graveline, Bob Graveline, Charles Gravline, Corey Grossman, Lyle Johnson, Lyle Mineke, and Joe Sigurdson.
Music: Sid Brandt, Soloist and Sharon Siberg, Organist.
