Mae B. Melland, 91, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Nekoma and Park River, ND, passed away December 3, 2014 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND.
Mae B. Lee was born June 17, 1923 to Bert & Mabel Lee. She attended school in the Nekoma area. In 1941, Mae married Walter Melland in Crookston, MN, and they farmed in the Nekoma, ND area. Mae sold Avon products and also worked with her husband, Walter, as part of a cleaning crew for the missile site in Nekoma. In 1977, Walter and Mae moved to Park River, ND where Mae worked for 16 years as a kitchen aide at the nursing home in Park River. Mae and Walter moved to Grand Forks, ND in the mid-2000s. Mae resided at Woodside Village until her passing.
Mae loved gardening and flowers. She liked to bake and was wonderful at needlework. She embroidered a special quilt that had all the fifty states on it. She was an active member of the Nekoma Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir and was a member of the ladies aide group.
Surviving Mae are her daughters: Luanne (Al) Fenger of East Grand Forks, MN, Vicki (Denny) Polikoff of Arvada, CO, Beverly (Jim) McBride of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, sons Randy & Roger, and sisters Beatrice Myhre & Borghild Dahlgren. Services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel in Langdon, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time.
Interment in the spring at Silvesta Cemetery.
