Lyle Bata, 78, of Langdon, ND passed away October 11, 2008 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.
Lyle was born October 16, 1929 at Langdon, ND to Joseph I. and Alice (Walsh) Bata. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in 1947. Lyle enlisted in the United States Army on November 6, 1951 and was honorably discharged on June 20, 1952, returning to farm in Langdon. Lyle was united in marriage to Margaret Pederson in 1955 and they made their home in Langdon. They had one child, Linda. Lyle kept a diary for many years and enjoyed keeping and looking back at photo albums and scrapbooks. He was an exceptional marksman and an avid hunter. He had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing harmonies with his daughter while driving around the farm. He loved collecting and telling jokes and stories. Lyle was a long-time member of the American Legion and United Lutheran Church. Lyle continued to keep track of the crops and have coffee with friends throughout his retirement.
Lyle is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Linda Bata and her husband, Jon Jensen, of Grand Forks, ND; brothers Judd of Bakersfield, CA and Charles (Patty) of Langdon; sisters-in-law Sandra Brooks of Langdon and Mildred (Gary) Smith of Chinook, Montana; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David, of Overland Park, Kansas; his mother and father-in-law, Evelyn and Oscar Pederson; and his brother-in-law, Keith Brooks.
Services will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at United Lutheran Church of Langdon, ND. Visitation will take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Tuesday
