Lucy Agnes

October 19, 1938 — September 25, 2012

Lucy A. Agnes, 73, of Bismarck, ND and formerly of Langdon, ND, passed away September 25, 2012 at St. Alexius Medical Center of Bismarck, ND.

Lucy was born on October 19, 1938 to Joseph Amable and Alvina Marie (Bercier) Barron at home in Rolla, ND. She attended Rolla elementary school and earned her GED at the age of 63 from the Turtle Mountain Community College of Belcourt, ND.

She worked at The Canteen in Rolla and at the Hospital in Rolla. Lucy and Frank Joseph Agnes were united in marriage on June 23, 1960 at Rolla, ND. After their married they lived in Minnesota. They moved to Langdon in 1966 where she worked at several cafés as a cook. She was a bartender at the Cave in Langdon as well. She was a member at the Eagles Auxiliary and while living in Langdon she was a member of the St. Alphonsus Church and the Altar Society.

Lucy loved to crochet and make pine cone Christmas trees and crafts. She loved to play bingo and go to the casino. Lucy has always been an outgoing, fun loving, and caring woman. She may have only had eight children, but there were many others she was a mom to. She always had room in her heart for others. She was a woman of short stature who loved with the heart of a giant. Lucy lived in Langdon a good 30 years. She and Frank had many memories and enjoyed going to dinner, fishing, camping (not so much), and watching their children and grandchildren play sports. Summers were for the kids’ pool time, softball and going to visit the homestead in Minnesota or to Belcourt for time with her brothers and sisters. Lucy enjoyed her wine and her bingo time. Going to the casino was a great day for her. “Gambling Granny” was her newest nickname. The fun was always watching her play.

Lucy enjoyed the love and attention of her eight children, 40 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. To say she was a MOM says it ALL. She loved her family unconditionally, and they were her world. Family is not just by birth, it is by love, and her heart was invested always. She loved her life in Langdon with Frank and family. She had many close friends she shared her love of cards, coffee, and of course bingo with. She lived with Frank until his passing in Devils Lake, ND. She was close to family and good friends. In 2004 she moved to Fargo where she lived with her son and family for four years before moving to Bismarck, ND. She enjoyed her last few years planting flowers, playing games on her computer (Facebook creeper), and spending early mornings having her daily “Holiday Coffee”. Mom loved seeing her grandchildren when they were able to stop by. She always had time for the great-grand babies. They made her life complete. Her favorite kind of day was to go out to eat, do a little shopping and become “gambling granny” and head off to the casino for good food, lots oflaughs, memories and love.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at St. Alexius Medical Center as well as Dr. Shelly Seifert and Dr. Rao from Mid Dakota Clinic for the kindness and honesty of care they gave her.
