Lois J. Halvorson was born February 8, 1940, at McVille, ND to Guy A. and M. Laura (Flint) Halvorson. She grew up in the Cavalier area and graduated from Cavalier High School in 1957. She then attended Mayville State College.
On November 28, 1958, Lois married Barry Coggon in Cavalier. They made their home in Cavalier, where she worked at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Pembina County Nurses Office and Emergency Management, then as an AFLAC agent. As a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lois served on the church council, as Sunday school superintendent, choir director, and pianist. She was active in many community activities, which included the Pembina County Memorial Hospital Board, Pembina County Food Pantry, Pembina County Historical Museum, Salvation Army, and a local book club. Her faith and caring for others was evident in helping found Worship in the Park, Faith-In-Action, and the widow - widowers support group. Lois was also active in a Bible study, Relay for Life, and Stephen Ministries.
Survivors include her children, Scott (Stephanie) Coggon, Traverse City, MI and Brenda (Scott) Herland, Parshall, ND; grandchildren: Garrett, Leah, and Eric Coggon.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Barry, who passed away on August 12, 1991, and her parents.
Lois J. Coggon, 73, of Cavalier, ND passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, June 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m., Order of Eastern Star service at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery.
